About Us

Devices 4 the Disabled (D4D) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and a subsidiary of Project HUGS Foundation. Its mission: to collect, refurbish, and distribute used Durable Medical Equipment to people in need.

D4D’s immediate focus is on gathering inventory and developing a medical equipment distribution system: collecting and refurbishing, and redistributing equipment to those in need. We know that there is a strong need in the disabled community for durable medical equipment. We are trying to match the supply of equipment in the Cook County area to that need. Ultimately, we envision a DME Resource Center: an all-encompassing resource for collection, repair, refurbishing, delivery, and pickup of DME.

What We Do

Devices 4 the Disabled (D4D) provides pickup, refurbishing, delivery of durable medical equipment to those in need. Our service solves one of the biggest problems with medical equipment delivery as it currently stands: forcing consumers to purchase equipment for a high price, and then leaving it to patients or their families to resell or donate when there is no longer a need for that device.

Here is how the process works, step-by-step:

1. D4D receives donations of equipment at its drop-off locations and brings the equipment to its main facility.
2. The equipment is cleaned and refurbished to like-new condition.
3. You, the patient, have a need for a device. You contact us and we check our inventory.
4. If we don’t have a match, you’re put on a waiting list. If we have a match, we work out rental or purchase terms.
5. Once terms are agreed on, we send the device.
6. When you’re done with your device, we pick it up and make it ready for the next patient.
